For Better or For Worse? 4 Years Later.

September 17, 2011, I remember like it was yesterday. A super sunny Saturday, the bluest skies, perfect fall temperature and me. A 21 year old, in a huge white gown, hours away from marrying my best friend. Completely naive and unaware to the journey I was vowing to take with my now husband, I claimed I was ready. Was I?IMG_1505

"Marriage is a decision you make to love a perfectly flawed individual."

I don't think anyone is really ever ready for such a huge step, such as marriage. No matter how many books you read, videos you watch or people you seek advice from, you're truly never fully equipped for this roller coaster of a journey. What I'm trying to say is that I forgot my husband was a HUMAN! Yup, that's correct. When I married him, initially I knew my father set the bar oh so high for whatever man that was going to come my way. But I had to remember that when I met my father (fresh out of the womb), he wasn't the same man my mother married several years before. Marriage is a consistent journey of evolving phases. michelleana-33

"Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone." Psalm 33:22

Marriage is such a beautiful indescribable union between two very flawed individuals that vowed to go through life as one. In the 4 years that Curtis and myself have been married, we have continuously defied the odds. Yes, you may see smiles, giggles and holding of the hands, but that part is merely a fraction of what God intended for our marriage to be, it is a ministry. We do argue and sometimes we may not like each other (love you babe! lol) but we always manage to come together again but only because of our foundation, which is God. Never ever forget Him in your marriage.I have learned that often times, as wives, we have such high expectations of our husbands, but he is NOT Jesus. I was convinced that Curtis was perfect! He looks good, smells good, charming, he can dress, and he can sing to me any day, but those are all things that attracted me to him. None of those things listed above depict how he'll handle stressful situations or whether or not he's a morning person or a night owl, just to name a few scenarios. michelleana-37

"We are perfect for each other but we are not perfect."

I want to encourage you that even in the darkest most ugliest points of your marriage, there will always and forever be that spark of hope. Hopes that laughter and intimacy will return. God made no mistake in placing you two together, so fight for your marriage.michelleana-22
